Te Hiringa Maori Business Expo |
The idea to develop a Māori Business Expo in the North emerged when a handful of Māori businesses, Te Puni Kokiri Māori Business Facilitation and Poutama Trust staff participated as exhibitors in the Northland Business expo at the Genesis Energy Kensington Stadium ASB Leisure Centre, Whangarei in April 2009.
As we stood on the mezzanine floor having a cuppa tea the idea to have an expo for Māori was born. Te Puni Kokiri, through the Māori Business Facilitation service converted that energy into action by pulling together a small working party of three that grew to five to plan and implement the first Māori Business Expo for Māori in the Bay of Islands on Waitangi Day 2010.
The event is about celebration, and the recognition and impact Māori SME’s (Small and medium business owners) and Māori owners of collective assets contribute to the economy, their whanau and to their communities. This expo is one way to recognise the efforts, the value, the courage and the resilience of Māori doing business.
The planning committee members are as follows; |
April Erueti: Chair
Ko Aotea te waka
I te taha o taku waene Ko Taranaki te maunga Ko Ngati Ruanui te iwi
I te taha o taku matua Ko Whanganui te awa Ko Te Ati-haunui- a papa-rangi te iwi
“It’s a delight and a pleasure working with Māori Business owners. Māori entrepreneurial interests and achievements range the entire spectrum of business activity and coaching particularly Māori through business challenges as an Account Manager is very rewarding.”
April holds two post graduate qualifications including a MBA and brings to the TPK role and the committee a number of years experience as a consultant in the commercial sector working in New Zealand, London, Europe and New York. A former director in the public service and former director of a number of private and public sector companies, she is also director and shareholder of Associates 7 Ltd. |
Liz Makene
Te Kohatutaka te Hapu - Ko Te Rarawa te Iwi

Jamin Tahere:
2010 is now my tenth year in the financial industry. My career started in the banking world where I started with ASB Bank for three years and then the next 2 years with Westpac. Whilst with the banks I started home lending and this is where I found my passion for helping everyday people accomplish their dreams of owning their own home. Being the home lender was such a pivotal role in a property transaction and after 3 years with Westpac I wanted to offer my clients more options. I needed to work with all banks and lenders, hence my move to Rezolve Mortgage Advisors where I enjoyed 2 years before my wife and I set up Seek First Finance Ltd in the beginning of 2008.
Seek First Finance also specialises in protecting my clients, their families and their businesses from outside risk by providing insurance that covers their Life, Mortgage, Income and their Health. This is very important as their biggest asset is not their home, but their ability to earn money (wages/salary) and to make sure their business is still profitable if they are not able to operate it due to illness, accident or death. My passion is for the Small Medium Enterprise (SME’s) business owners and this is where I provide sound advice around ACC Cover Plus Extra and Revenue Protection based contracts. I make sure you have insurance in place that will pay at claim time!
I am an accredited member of the New Zealand Mortgage Brokers Association (NZMBA) and associated with Allied Kiwi Mortgages & Insurance Limited as my aggregator. I am currently in the process of gaining my Authorised Financial Advisor accreditation. |
